Windlass Rod Tourniquet

Windlass Rod Tourniquet is a medical device designed to control severe bleeding by constricting blood flow to a specific part of the body. The term “Windlass” refers to a twisting or rotating rod mechanism used to tighten the tourniquet and apply pressure to the blood vessels. In emergency situations, the Windlass Rod Tourniquet is applied proximal (closer to the body) to a bleeding injury, and the windlass is twisted to tighten the strap, creating sufficient pressure to stop or control bleeding. This mechanism effectively interrupts blood circulation to the injured area. The Windlass Rod Tourniquet is commonly used in pre-hospital and tactical settings and is an essential tool for rapid and temporary hemorrhage control, especially in situations where prompt medical intervention may be delayed.
